Geotourism represents a recent evolution of the ecotourism concept. Fostering the nature and cultural sustainability, geotourists seek geological wonders framed in a natural and cultural authenticity. The International Summer School "Geotourism, culture and sustainability" is specially addressed to PhD and Master students working on (geo)tourism and geoconservation topics and also to geoparks and protected areas' staff and tourism professionals. The Summer School is organized in three main parts: lessons by experts, a workshop, and fieldtrips in the Naturtejo Geopark (member of the Global Geoparks Network, assisted by Unesco).
Aims
- To raise awareness on geotourism concepts and methodologies;
- To discuss geotourism and a new trend under the nature tourism market;
- To share best practices on the interpretation of geosites for the general public;
- To promote the exchange of experiences based on the presentation of examples of geotouristic activities.
Workshop
Participants are invited to contribute to the workshop included in the schedule. Each participant is requested to present a 10 minutes communication about his/her experience on geotourism (master or PhD thesis concluded, ongoing or future, etc.). A computer (with Powerpoint) and a multimedia projector will be available. Please take an USB-key or a CD-ROM with your presentation. Each participant should send an abstract of his/her presentation with “Title”, “Abstract” (250-300 words) and “Keywords” (3-5). The deadline to send this abstract is 15th June 2011.
